About OHSU Healthcare
The hospitals and medical practices of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) provide leading-edge health care services to patients throughout Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and far beyond. As Oregon’s only academic health center, OHSU cares for the hardest-to-treat patients, and provides an extensive range of services from routine care to the most complex and highly sophisticated treatments and procedures.
OHSU’s mission of healing, teaching and research, combined with community service, sets us apart. Together, these pieces form the foundation for our patient care services. With knowledge at our core, we seek to find innovative solutions to each patient’s needs and to the nationwide health care challenges we face today.

Health Care Grounded in Research
OHSU's high-quality health care incorporates the latest medical research, technology and innovation. Nationally recognized clinical researchers at OHSU take their knowledge from the laboratory directly to the patient. This proximity between medical breakthrough and applied health care enables a level of treatment unmatched anywhere else in the state.
What it means to be transparent
OHSU made a commitment in 2006 to set the standard for hospital transparency. What does that mean?
It means that we are leading by example in providing access for healthcare consumers to current, accurate and easy-to-understand hospital information. Our commitment is to accurately report about the safety, quality and level of patient satisfaction related to the care we provide in our hospitals and clinics.
OHSU encourages patients to evaluate many measurements when contemplating healthcare services. As an educational institution, we believe we have a responsibility to help individuals learn how to use the various "report cards" that are available online, as well as how to evaluate the benefits and limitations of these reports.
For more information about this type of reporting, as well as links to other online comparison tools, please go to Quality and Service.
