The Trauma/Critical Care Section and the Department of Public Health and Preventative Medicine are now recruiting 1,000 subjects for a study on bike commuter injury!

The purpose of this study is to quantify both the incidence of traumatic injury associated with bike commuting in Portland, Oregon and the impact of an injury on the individual’s subsequent health and employment. This study will also collect data regarding the “near misses” which bike commuters experience as they ride to and from work. Although bicycle commuting has been common in Portland for decades, the injury risks associated with bicycling to work and school are virtually unknown.

BICYCLE COMMUTER INJURY: A ONE-YEAR PROSPECTIVE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY IN PORTLAND, OREGON

You may qualify for this study if:
* You are at least 18 years old
* You self define as bike commuter
* You bike within the City of Portland for at least part of your commute
* You have access to the Internet
* You can be reached via email
* You can complete surveys written in the English language, either alone or with assistance
Participation in this study includes completion of 1 initial and 12 monthly online surveys about your bike commute over the next year. Surveys will take no longer than 15 minutes to complete. This is an observational study. You will not be asked to make any changes to your bike commute or to lifestyle, nor will you be asked to undergo any medical testing.
